ABOUT

Maurice Leoni-Osion is a multidisciplinary artist based in Richmond, VA, and Berlin, DE. His work spans youth arts, sound, archives, and cultural programming, with a focus on designing creative environments that empower youth, artists, and communities to engage in collective storytelling. His practice incorporates performance, musical compositions, field recordings, interviews, poetry, and geolocated audio to reactivate lived and lost experiences.

His work draws inspiration from figures such as television producer Marion Stokes and science fiction author Octavia Butler, as well as from his grandmother’s vinyl collection, which introduced him to music and storytelling, where he discovered how voices, instruments, artworks, and liner notes can creatively preserve memories and movements, shaping listening as an active process of discovery and sound as a catalyst for connecting identity and lineage.
 

A central focus of Maurice's practice is examining how technology shapes our relationship to memory and place. This inquiry extends to For The Record (FTR), a platform he co-founded with Marguax LeSourd
Inviting audiences to explore and learn about their environment through interactive audio experiences.

In addition, for over 10 years, Maurice has also served as a program director and facilitator at arts and nonprofit organizations. He has helped clarify vision, align ambitious projects with sustainable resources, and lead intergenerational artist development initiatives, including residencies, programs, workshops, public events, and exhibitions.
